Every business needs a beginning, a foundation on what their business is going to be built on.

If you read my first blog post, you already know my goal is to create an income stream strictly using my phone.

I’m still in the “startup” phase of this business so I set aside at least these first two weeks to get the essentials up and running.

I realize not everything will be perfect, but I wanted a solid base to build on.

I’m hoping that I can inspire you to take action as well. Throughout each blog post I’m hoping to deliver massive value with actionable content.

Here’s what Week 1–2 looked like:

🔍 Step 1: Pick a Niche & Domain Name

The first move was choosing a niche I could talk about for the long haul.

Since I’m all about time saving strategies and mobile first income, the niche practically picked itself.

Helping busy people launch side hustles from their pocket device (aka your phone). Realistically when it boils down to it, the broader niche is make money online something I already have some knowledge in.

Once I had the niche picked, I brainstormed some ideas using ChatGPT with the below prompt.

”You’re a branding expert who specializes in naming online businesses that stand out and convert. The niche is “make money online,” and the unique angle is that the entire business is operated from a smartphone, emphasizing mobility, freedom, and digital entrepreneurship. Prioritize domain names that are short, brandable, and easy to remember. Include a mix of options: keyword rich names, clever brand style names, and mobile focused ideas. Present your list in three categories: “Keyword Based,” “Brandable,” and “Mobile Centric.””

This gave me a list of domain names that I looked through, which some of them were already taken. I ended up settling on Pocket Side Hustle.

I headed to godaddy and once logged in purchased and registered my domain pocketsidehustle.com. Short, catchy, and clear.

🌐 Step 2: Set Up Hosting & WordPress

Next, I headed over to Wealthy Affiliate, the hosting platform I personally use.

Now, let me be honest, there are definitely cheaper WordPress hosting options out there. But for me, Wealthy Affiliate holds a special place.

It’s where I got my start with making money online, and they’ve got a suite of tools and training that simplify the process.

After grabbing the nameservers from my WA dashboard, I popped over to GoDaddy, where I registered the domain and pointed the domain to Wealthy Affiliate.

From there I set up the WordPress website with just a few taps.

In under 10 minutes my site was live. It was plain, sure. Empty? Yes. Most importantly though is that it’s a functioning website.

Now, the real work and fun begins.

🎨 Step 3: Create a Simple, Mobile-Friendly Design

Since this site is for people working from their phone, I wanted to make sure I picked a clean, responsive WordPress theme and customized just the essentials.

For this I chose Generate Press, a clean and simple theme that is very light weight. All I had to do was modify the colors, navigation, and menus.

No overthinking, no design rabbit holes.

The goal was clarity and speed, not flash.

🧠 Step 4: Develop a Logo and Slogan

Branding helps your side hustle become a reality both to yourself and your visitors.

For the logo I utilized ChatGPT with a simple prompt.

Make a logo for a WordPress website “Pocket Side Hustle”.

I then took the logo it created and put it into the Canva app, made a few modifications and the outcome is what you see at the top of this page.

Regarding the slogan, I tried to use ChatGPT again but it was missing the mark so after a few brainstorming sessions in my notes app I combined different ones together into one slogan as I wanted it to capture what this website is about. I landed on: “Helping Busy People Build Profitable Side Hustles, Right from Their Phone!”

It’s a work in progress , but so is everything else.

✍️ Step 5: Publish the “Start Here” Page + First 2 Blog Posts

Once the structure was in place, I created a welcoming “Start Here” page to guide new visitors through what the site’s about. Then I wrote and published two blog posts:

  1. A beginner-friendly post on side hustles you can start from your phone
  2. A personal intro about why I started this site and what readers can expect

Again, perfection wasn’t the goal. The goal was to get the ball rolling.

✅ Bonus Tasks I Snuck In:

  • Installed essential WordPress plugins for speed, security, and SEO
  • Set up basic analytics to track visitors (Google Analytics or Plausible)
  • Created a simple favicon (yes, even the little browser icon matters)
  • Started a note for future blog post ideas — because they come when you least expect them

💡 What I Learned:

You really can launch something meaningful in your spare time — even if it’s during nap time, lunch breaks, or while waiting in line. The trick is to focus on progress, not perfection.

On to Week 3, where we start attracting readers. Let’s get it.

Hopefully this all makes sense but…
